Special Service Area Eight

East and West Loon Lakes benefit from the Loon Lakes Management Association (LLMA) which receives funding through the Special Service Area Eight (SSA8) tax district. The money is used for management and protection of the lake and the surrounding watershed. There is a memorandum of agreement between LLMA and the Lake County Health Department Environmental Services (LCHD-ES) that stipulates specific requirements of the association.
Any management that uses SSA8 money has to go through an Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) consultation. As part of the consultation process, LLMA was asked to conduct a survey on the endangered and threatened fish within the lake and also create a five year conservation plan outlining the anticipated management. Activities that have been funded through the SSA8 include aquatic plant management, boat launches, and shoreline stabilization.

Hi, I just want to inform the LLMA about a concern with the boat launch on West Loon Lake. We launched our boat there yesterday Thursday, July 25th and while attempting to get onto the walk/dock for the ramp, I slipped on the very slick grass and mud that is in front of it. It caused me to fall backward and fall very hard on my back and head. It hurt a great deal and was witnessed by the weedboat driver and the pickup truck driver removing the weed from the lake. Luckily, I don’t think I was hurt too badly although I do have a lot of back pain and neck pain. I state this, not because I I want anything, but to inform you that for your own protection and the protection of others who might use and pay for using that launch, something should be done to correct the problem.

Perhaps you could pour some gravel there so as to eliminate the slippery grass and mud there, probably the cheapest fix, or extend the dock walkway further to the parking lot . IDK not my area of expertise. All I know, is that I was lucky that I didn’t experience anything more than a bruised ego and some aches and pains. It could have been much worse. The ramp itself is slippery as well, ,not sure if there is much you can do about that but just FYI.

Thanks for having the launch there, we enjoyed our day fishing on your East and West lakes. Wish the fishing would have been better but hey it was a fun day fishing and that always beats working.
